WISDOM TEETH

Wisdom tooth removal in Palamós

We assess whether your wisdom teeth need to come out and, if so, remove them at the clinic.

With a digital panoramic X-ray taken at the clinic we see the position of each wisdom tooth and explain whether it should be removed, when and how.

Do wisdom teeth always have to be removed?

No. If your wisdom teeth have come through properly, have enough room and can be cleaned well, they can often stay and simply be monitored at your check-ups.

Problems arise when they do not have enough space, remain impacted in the bone or gum, or come through at an angle and push against or damage the neighbouring tooth.

When is removal recommended?

We decide after the X-ray and after talking it through with you. The most common reasons are:

  • Repeated inflammation or infection of the gum around the tooth.
  • Pain at the back of the mouth or when opening it.
  • Decay in the wisdom tooth or the tooth next to it, because it is hard to reach with a brush.
  • Impacted or badly positioned teeth that may cause problems later on.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions about wisdom teeth

Does wisdom tooth removal hurt?

The extraction is done under local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Afterwards some swelling and discomfort for a few days is normal and is controlled with the prescribed medication and cold packs.

How long is the recovery?

It depends on the difficulty. For simple extractions it is usually a matter of a few days; if the tooth was impacted it may take a little longer. We will tell you what to expect.

Can they all be removed at once?

Sometimes yes, and sometimes it is better to do it in two visits. We decide based on the position of the teeth and your preference.

What should I avoid afterwards?

For the first few hours avoid spitting forcefully, smoking, and very hot or hard food. We give you all the instructions in writing.
