What does oral surgery include?

Oral surgery covers procedures on the teeth, the bone and the soft tissues of the mouth: from a difficult extraction to preparing the bone before an implant.

The key is good planning: knowing before we start where the roots, the bone and nearby structures are, so the treatment is as safe and comfortable as possible.

When might it be needed?

The most common cases are:

  • Removal of impacted or badly positioned wisdom teeth.
  • Extraction of badly broken teeth or teeth with difficult roots.
  • Surgery related to implants, such as bone regeneration when there is not enough bone.
  • Small lesions of the gum or lining of the mouth that need to be removed or examined.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions about oral surgery

Will I feel pain during the procedure?

We work under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure but no pain. If you are nervous, tell us and we will take things more slowly.

How long is the recovery?

It depends on the procedure. Usually it is a matter of a few days of discomfort controlled with medication. We will explain in detail beforehand.

Can I go to work afterwards?

After many simple procedures, yes, the next day. For more complex surgery we will recommend one or two days’ rest.

What should I do before surgery?

Tell us about any medication you take or any medical condition. We will give you specific instructions for your case.
